AI can save Vande-Bharat Train Accidents !
The inevitable cattle accidents with high-speed trains has been constantly bothering Indian Railways. Here’s how Artificial Intelligence can help in avoiding such mishaps.
“Collision with cattle on tracks is unavoidable” said Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, a day after 4 buffaloes were hit by Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express near Vatva in Ahmedabad. The non-stop train runs at a speed of 130–160 kmph and when the driver notices obstruction on the tracks, it is already too late to stop the train at such high-speed. It is noteworthy that just 2 months before Indian PM Narendra Modi waved green-flag to this train and since then, three such similar incidents have been reported with the same train.
In countries like India, tracks are laid on ground and they pass through villages where cattle are found in huge quantities. Cattle such as cows walk around greenery in search for food and hence it is difficult for the owners to monitor them.
How AI can come to rescue ?
Artificial Intelligence based safety-monitoring system can detect obstacles such as person, cattle, huge rocks etc lying on tracks using camera.
